Let's get right down to it. What's it like to work with me? Well, I'm pretty laid back (hence the name "Mellow Cat").
Snapshot of the process...
I like to get a feel for your author voice, so in the beginning I'll likely ask you a lot of questions about your preferences and style. Respect and trust are two things you'll get from me, and I expect the same in return. Editing is a deeply personal journey for authors, and I honor that... with the expectation that you respect my job of editing.
In business - as with life - sometimes personalities and styles don't mesh. That's okay! This is one of the reasons an editing sample is necessary. It gives us both the chance to get a feel for one another as well as our own ways of doing things. The most important thing to me is communication. Open and clear communication not only makes everyone's life a little easier, but it's also a sign of respect. Additionally, please understand that I refuse to half-ass my job. I will not rush through a project, so if you need a quick turnaround, talk to me first so we can be on the same page (see what I did there? 😸).
